There are four standard roles on wordpress sites that have been slightly modified on the dpc site: Administrator, Editor, Author, and Contributor.
Administrator
An administrator has full and complete ownership of a blog, and can do absolutely everything. Complete power over posts/pages, comments, settings, theme choice, import, users – the whole shebang. Nothing is off-limits, including deleting the entire blog. Only one administrator per blog is recommended!
If you create pages or posts as the administrator no-one else can modify or remove them, so best pratise is to only create pages & posts under your own log in.
If you add a user as an administrator, you are granting full ownership rights to him/her. This means that if he/she deletes the blog and/or its content, there is no wrongdoing. For this reason, we recommend having only one administrator per blog.
Editor
An editor can publish, edit, and delete any posts/pages, moderate comments, manage categories, manage tags, manage links and upload files/images. Normally staff or specific people who need to modify the entire site get this privledge.
Author
An author can edit, publish and delete their posts, and their own pages, as well as upload files/images. Autor’s cannot create their own pages, so a page would need to be created for them by an administrator or Editor, who would ensure that the “page author” feild (at the bottom of “Page Edit”) is assigned to the user name of the relevant Author.
Contributor
A contributor can edit their posts but cannot publish them. When a contributor creates a post, it will need to be submitted to an administrator or editor for review. Once a contributor’s post is approved by an administrator or editor and published, however, it may no longer be edited by the contributor.
A contributor does not have the ability to upload files/images.
Subscriber
Can log in but not change anything, useful for people who need to log in to edit the planner!
Advice: Be careful what roles you give people, especially if you want them to be an Editor or Administrator.
