How to Serve At the Door on Sunday
| Role: | Be the first point of contact in welcoming people on Sundays |
| Who to ask: | Darryl Soh (9am & 10:30am) Jo Gamble (6pm) |
| Hours required: | You need to arrive early (before church) for the month you are on. |
| Why this ministry matters: | First impressions matter: At DPC it is everyone's job to welcome newcomers, your role is often to be the first step in people joining us at DPC, coming to Christ, and growing in Him. |
Job description: This is a simplified checklist for those already trained.
10am/5:30pm:
- Insert a white Welcome card and bulletin into each bible. Please do not insert any extra material, which has not be specially instructed by the staff.
- Check entry doors are open and glass doors are open in place with stoppers.
At the Door:
- Be at the door by 10:20 am/5:50pm ready to give out bulletins and bibles. (Note: first time visitors usually are early to church)
- Smile, shake hands, greet each other with a holy kiss and distribute bibles accordingly.
- Be sensitive to the person's needs; do they need to know about creche, Kids' Church, etc. Seek to connect them with relevant people (Kid's Church Director, etc..)
- At 10:25/5:55pm, please encourage anyone who is loitering in the foyer to be seated as church will be starting soon.
- Stay at the door until at least 10:45am/6:15pm. Shut the glass doors between the foyer and the church when you come in.
- If you run out of bulletins, please contact the office or put a note on a white card with an estimate of how many more bulletins are needed for the following weeks.
During the Break / During Coffee:
- Check that visitors are not on their own. If in conversation, well & good, otherwise take the opportunity to introduce yourself.
- Your role is not to talk to just the one person. Seek to introduce the person to someone with which they have something in common.
- If possible, introduce them to a staff member.
- Be sensitive to the fact that some newcomers may wish to remain anonymous (i.e. their address, why they are visiting)....others will appreciate any interest that you show.
- Please pass any pertinent personal details that may assist in follow-up to the staff by filling out a white card and putting it the red boxes.
After Church:
- If not caught in a conversation, go out to the foyer to greet/farewell newcomers.
- Invite visitors to stay for a coffee.
- Encourage the newcomers to fill out the white card and put in the red boxes. One way you can explain why it will be a good thing to fill it out is to say: "Filling out the white card just allows our minister Craig Tucker to write you a welcoming letter."
- Collect all the Bibles and leftover bulletins and return them to the foyer table. Place unused white cards in a pile.
